Sustainable Port Development Training – EMEA session

Sustainable Port Development Training

In 2018, the International Association of Ports and Harbors launched the World Ports Sustainability Program. This program consists of five areas of interest in terms of how ports apply the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals in practice. The Program now has a database of well over 200 projects from ports around the world.

The Program enables ports and partner organizations in the supply chain to tackle local, regional, and global challenges such as energy transition and adaptation to climate change, mobility, digitalization, infrastructure resilience, safety, and security -, and social integration through community outreach.

The Sustainable Port Development Training aims to provide you with a way of meeting those challenges effectively and taking opportunities that present themselves to port professionals when developing activities in a sustainable way.

The Sustainable Port Development Training will give you more insight in the topics that a port environment should address to ensure sustainable development. After this course, you will:

  • Understand the role of ports in the way they apply the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Gain insight into the five areas of interest related to sustainable port development:
    • Climate & Energy,
    • Community Outreach and Port-City Dialogue,
    • Resilient Infrastructure,
    • Governance & Ethics,
    • Safety & Security.
  • Be able to develop concrete project proposals that will enable a more sustainable performance in the areas of interest most applicable to your maritime organization.
  • Understand the role of different stakeholders active in the port ecosystem to develop a sustainable port.

The Sustainable Port Development Training is primarily designed for port authorities, terminal operators, and port management, but is open to all professionals active in a port ecosystem:

  • Managers working for governmental agencies such as customs, health authorities, and immigration,
  • Pilots,
  • Vessel Traffic Management operators
  • Port agencies,
  • Shipping lines and agencies,
  • Service providers such as surveyors and inspectors from classification societies
  • Dredgers,
  • Bunker operators,
  • Logistics and supply chain firms.

We welcome everyone who wants to gain more insight in making sustainable choices when developing activities in and around the port.

This is an online interactive training program made up of two modules (of three hours each) spread over two days.
